WHO WILL CREATE YOUR LEGACY?

The New Creating a Legacy Ministry

A good man leaves an inheritance for his children’s children,

but a sinner’s wealth is stored up for the righteous.

Proverbs 13:22

One of most loving gifts you can give to your family is a clear and comprehensive Legacy. Without it, a court will decide the fate of your family and the legacy you spent a lifetime building. If you die without a will, the State will direct the transfer of your assets, the assignment of your property, the selection of guardians for your children, and in essence, manage all of your affairs. All of this may be done without regard to your wishes or the desires of your family. These laws are rigid and give no consideration to the special needs or circumstances of your individual heirs. Without a will the State will not consider the future of The First Cathedral.

Important: If you don’t have a will, the State of Connecticut has one for you. Without a will, you lose the power to control the destiny of your family and your property.

Why should you make a will?

Everyone who owns property, has dependents, has investments or savings, and wants to remember the work of the church must have a will. A properly executed will allows you to Create a Legacy by:

  • Distributing your estate as you choose.
  • Appointing your own trusted executor to administer your estate
  • Minimizing estate settlement costs and pass the savings onto your family
  • Appointing the best guardian for your children
  • Saving your family the expense, chaos and turmoil of settling your estate on their own.
  • Providing for The First Cathedral.

Everyone should have a will regardless of the size of their estate. You have important decisions to be made that will affect the lives of those you love for generations. Without a valid will, your desire to benefit your family and The First Cathedral may not be achieved. It is never too early to begin planning. Begin by selecting the best financial professionals for your situation.  If you would like to contact the Creating a Legacy ministry directly, emial us at legacy@firstcathedral.org or call 860-243-6520 and ask to speak with one of our members. If you would like to get started making or updating your will and you already have an estate attorney, financial advisor, or life insurance specialist, you should consult with them first.

The time to create your legacy is now; the benefit is everlasting!

HOW DO I GET STARTED?

Do you have a valid Will?  Yes:

  • Have your reviewed and updated your Will within the last 5 years?
  • Have there been any significant changes in your life since you prepared your Will or last reviewed it?  A new spouse, a divorce, birth or adoption of child/ children death of a beneficiary, or a recent personal inheritance you received?
  • Now that you have provided for your family and loved ones, have you considered a charitable contribution to The First Cathedral?

Do you have a Will?  No:

  • Everyone should have a Will regardless of the size of their estate.
  • The State of Connecticut will have the right to decide how your assets will be disbursed.
  • If you have under age children, the State of Connecticut will decide who will be their guardian.
  • It is strongly recommended that you see an estate attorney to help you ensure your final wishes are honored by preparing a legal Will.
  • After providing for your family and loved ones, have you considered making a charitable contribution to The First Cathedral as a personal legacy?

Do you have Life Insurance?

  • Is the amount of Life Insurance you have adequate for your family needs?
  • Will your family be able to maintain or improve their lifestyle once your estate has paid any outstanding expenses and settled your estate?
  • If you have minor children, will your spouse have sufficient finances to take care of them?  Consider your home, education, and health expenses.
  • Will there be sufficient monies to pay for your children’s college education?
  • After providing for your family, why not consider The First Cathedral as an additional beneficiary.
  • Contact your Insurance Agent or your Financial Advisor to help you determine if you have adequate coverage or to update your beneficiary designations.

Once my family is adequately provided for, how can I make a bequest to The First Cathedral?

·        You may Include The First Cathedral as a beneficiary in your will.

·        The First Cathedral may be added as an additional beneficiary to your permanent life insurance policy, term life insurance policy, or Group Life insurance policy at work.
